About the Artist

Before computers produced drawings, charts, and technical plans, someone had to draw everything by hand. In the 1970’s I started my career as an engineering draftsperson, drawing surveys, charts and presentations using a pen or pencil and paper. While working with Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department, I was assigned to draw pipes so they looked real, and that is what rekindled my childhood interest in art.

In school, my favorite subject was art (of course). I started drawing and painting as a young child, then began creating for others when I became a draftsperson. My interest continued when my children were little. I loved helping them with school science and art projects because it gave us a chance to produce something together. It wasn’t until I retired that I started to learn more techniques and try different mediums.

I get my inspiration from my love of animals and nature. Every medium I work with started by chance. Mosaics for me began when a tiler friend gave me some beautiful glass tiles he had left over from a project. I started covering stepping stones and it went on from there. I began painting rocks after a book on rock painting caught my eye while I was shopping for something else. I immediately became hooked, and purchased every rock painting book I could find. In the beginning painted rocks to give as gifts and when I sold my first rock at a gift shop, I got the confidence I needed to continue.

I have done several paintings and mosaics with whimsical themes. My latest adventure is resin art that I first saw created by a Japanese artist. I paint fish and other amphibians in three dimensions, so they appear to be swimming in water.

I hope my artwork makes the viewer smile. That is my goal. I participate in Mad Hatter and Gifford Lane Art Stroll, and have shown at local galleries and gift shops.
